Crossbite Treatment in Closter, NJ

A crossbite happens when one or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth instead of outside them. It can affect the front teeth or the back teeth, on one or both sides, and it should be corrected promptly to prevent long-term damage.

What causes a crossbite?

A crossbite can be caused by the position of the teeth, a narrow upper jaw, or a mismatch in jaw size. In children it is often linked to jaw growth and is easiest to correct early.

Why treat a crossbite?

A crossbite can cause uneven tooth wear, gum recession, and a shift of the lower jaw to one side — which, over time, can lead to facial asymmetry and jaw-joint strain. Correcting it early is much simpler than correcting it in adulthood.

How we correct a crossbite

Dr. Vaysman corrects crossbites with braces, Invisalign, or a palatal expander when the upper jaw is narrow. Once the bite is aligned, the teeth meet properly and the jaw is no longer forced out of position. See crossbite corrections in our before-and-after results.
