Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often from Bergen County families. Still have a question? Contact our Closter, NJ office — we are happy to help.
Why should I get orthodontic treatment?
The goal of orthodontic treatment is a beautiful smile and a healthy bite — straight teeth that meet properly so it is easier to bite, chew, and speak. A great smile also builds self-esteem and confidence. Straight teeth are easier to keep clean, which supports long-term dental health, and with good care your teeth can last a lifetime. Treatment works at any age: healthy teeth can be moved at 60 as easily as at 16.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Everyone is different, but most patients finish in about a year to a year and a half. Some cases move faster and some take longer, depending on complexity. Dr. Vaysman gives you a personalized timeline at your exam. Comparing options? See braces vs. Invisalign.
How much does treatment cost? Are financing options available?
Cost varies by case because every plan is customized to the patient, so an exam is needed for an exact price. Most families combine insurance, interest-free monthly payment plans, and FSA/HSA funds to make it manageable. Can orthodontics start while my child still has baby teeth?
Yes — and often that is the best time. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends every child be evaluated by age 7. An early, interceptive phase can make room for teeth, correct bite problems, and sometimes avoid extractions or surgery later. Will I need to have teeth extracted?
Most likely not. Dr. Vaysman rarely extracts permanent teeth, thanks to a growth-friendly, face-driven treatment approach and modern tools like self-ligating braces and Invisalign.
How often will my appointments be?
Generally, appointments are about every six to eight weeks.
Can I schedule appointments outside of school or work hours?
We try hard to offer convenient times — and we make it easier than most. Smile Orthodontists is open on Sundays and offers weekday evening appointments until 7:30 PM, so most visits fit neatly around school and work. Occasionally a longer appointment needs a daytime slot. Book your visit.
